Summer Festival August 11-15 2023
The third incarnation of the Academy's Summer Festival took place, again at St John's College School, from August 11-15 and was our most successful yet. Over 20 young musicians ranging from ages 9 to 28 lived, breathed, rehearsed and performed alongside top international musicians in a spirited but informal collegial atmosphere.
Participants were divided into junior and senior groups with string tutors playing side-by-side with both groups in set chamber ensembles. During this time solo pianists had individual lessons or played 4 hands with the piano tutors. Chamber orchestra, lessons, musicianship, special classes and piano masterclasses filled up the rest of schedule. In the evenings, students and tutors shared their love of music performing in informal recitals . New this year was a punting tour of Cambridge which proved to be one of the highlights of the week.
The junior and senior concerts were held on the last day with some truly inspirational performances being delivered. It was hard to believe the progress that had been made with some very demanding repertoire in just five short days.
